Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
As some of you may know, Spencer was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes almost 1 year ago. It has been a roller coaster ride to say the least. Through it all, he continues to be one of the coolest kids I know and handles his new "normal" in stride. We've changed our daily routine to accomodate the demands of Type 1 Diabetes, but we look forward to a future without lancing his fingers 10 or more times a day, a future with no injections and with no medical devices. All those with Type 1 Diabetes deserve to be able to let go of the fear: the fear that a severely low blood sugar will take their lives without notice and the fear that those highs will result in retinopathy, organ damage and a whole host of other issues.
We're helping JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) where no one has to fear developing this serious autoimmune disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and/or making a donation to JDRF, you can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D.
In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every donation, big or small, from donors like you, allows JDRF to fund the critical research needed to find a cure.
