We will turn Type One into Type None

Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!

Quentin was diagnosed on Friday, October 16, 2009 - he was 2 weeks shy of his 5th birthday.  That is the day our lives changed forever.  He took insulin injections for 18 months, but uses an insulin pump now.  We need to change his infusion set every 2 or 3 days, sometimes more frequently if it stops working or comes out.  He tests his blood sugar 7-10 times every day.  I still test him in the middle of the night.  We struggle to get his a1C (3 month average blood glucose) down and I get so upset when it's not as low as I'd like.  All I can think about is the toll the high blood sugars are taking on his body, his organs...I worry about what chronic health problems he'll have later in life if we can't keep his blood sugars controlled.  It's a lot of pressure and guilt for a parent and no child should have to live like this.
