Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!
I'm joining this year's Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF advance its strategic research plan to end T1D.
My journey with T1D started November 29, 2013 when my soon to be 4 year old daughter Sophia was diagnosed. We were told in the beginning that Sophia had a sinus infection, but after days of antibiotics made no improvement and symptoms seemed to be worsening we knew there was something wrong. She had an alarming dizzy spell and increasing lethargy so we went for a follow up visit with her pediatrician. After explaining to the doctor what was going on, he did an in-office urine test and told us there were abnormalities. Suddenly all of the pieces were falling into place and her symptoms began to make sense. We were told to go immediately to the emergency room. That trip led to a 4 day stay at Cooper University Hospital...half of that in the PICU. It was a scary time in our lives, one that I will not soon forget. My heart stoppped a thousand times as fear took over my entire being. This disease has turned our world upside down. This has taught me the amazing resiliance of children and when I look into my daughter's eyes I see a hero. She has been through and continues to go through so much in her young life. She, and other children like her deserve the chance at a cure. Please help me make that happen!
T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.
Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
