Welcome to Erin Gamache's Personal Fundraising Page!
In May 2011, my daughter Abigail was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Interestingly enough, when children are diagnosed with T1D, they often display the symptoms of a cold or flu but without the fever. Abigail was no exception. We thought we were in the clear for Diabetes because just three months prior to that, a routine pediatrics test screened for glucose and came back negative. Unfortunately, three months later she was suffering from ketoacidosis and had to be hospitalized for nearly 48 hours before we were released with hundreds of dollars of medical supplies and a few short hours of training to start managing her disease.
Immediately following our return home from the hospital visit, we were going through all of the information about T1D when we came across some material for JDRF. Because they focus on T1D, we were intrigued about how we could give back to help support research in to new ways to manage the disease and hopefully, a cure.
By September, we had arranged a fundraising car wash for the 2011 walk and we walked proudly as a newly-diagnosed type 1 diabetic family. We have continued to support JDRF by participating in the walk every year. It is JDRF's passion and determination with supporting the T1D community that inspires us to be part of the walk.
Abigail started on an insulin pump in September of 2012. Although this was a big change for all of us, the benefits have certainly outweighed the negatives. This type of management, which includes better overall blood sugar control and no daily shots unless necessary, would not be possible without your generous donations to JDRF.
Please consider helping me reach my goal by donating or joining our team Gamache for the walk in September! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for anything that you can do to help!
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
