Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!
Welcome to my JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page. This year my family, friends and I will be participating to raise money to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes on September 13th, 2014.
My son, Brett was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 11 years ago. He is now 16 years old and tackles his type 1 diabetes head on. It is constant management, 24/7. Type 1 diabetes never takes a break, so we can’t take a break from it. It sucks. It stinks. It is no fun. But I am so proud of my son, he has not let this disease hold him back. He loves his sports, hunting, camping and just started driving. He knows if he didn’t manage his diabetes that he wouldn’t be able to do what he loves all of the time.
I will give you just a little insight on what he has had to do over the years to manage his type 1 diabetes. He needs to test his blood sugar 6-10 times a day, count every carbohydrate that he eats, in his earlier years he had to do 4 daily insulin injections, & now he does site injections for his insulin pump. So over the past 11 years that means he has done: over 32,000 blood sugar tests on his fingers, over 4,380 insulin injections & over 1,330 site injections…….Imagine having to do that!
We have been involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walks(JDRF), on and off, since Brett was 5 yrs old. That first year we were so new to this big challenge that life dealt us. We were so overwhelmed, concerned, & exhausted with this new disease…..We walked for our 5 year old child. He needed a cure! BUT as the years went on, not only were we walking for just our child, but for our cousin, and then for our nephew. We have also met wonderful families that fight for a cure for type 1 diabetes like we do. All of these type 1 kids and families tug at my heart-strings! WE walk for ALL of them! They need a cure!!
JDRF has been doing great research over the years. I have seen the progress and advancements in the technology that we use to manage type 1. It gives me great hope. “……Our Donation Can Change Our DESTINY Because LIFE-CHANGING Discoveries Are NOT Beyond Our Control. Relieving The Constant Counting, Testing and Injecting, The Struggle Will Eventually Fade Away. It’s Why We Refuse To Believe Progress Is Uncertain. Because We Know For Generations To Come Life Will Get Better….And It’s Impossible To Think That A World Without Type One Diabetes Is Only A Dream.”
Join me today by supporting JDRF with your donation to help TURN TYPE ONE INTO TYPE NONE!
