Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

August 8, 2013 I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes.  This is also know as Type 1 Diabetes which is much different than the Type 2 that most people are familar with.  I was not feeling very good on August 8th and around 5:30 p.m. my mom took me to Stoughton Hospital Urgent Care where they took wonderful care of me until the special transport team from UW-Madison American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) arrived a few hours later to take me to the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit.  I was there in PICU for 24-hours but spent 3.5 days in AFCH.

This is a life long disease for me, but I'm not going to live my life as 'a sick person'.  I am going to do everything any other kid with do, I'm going to be involved in sports, go to birthday parties, have sleepovers, enjoy pizza and cake . . . I believe the only thing I cannot be is an Air Force Pilot.

I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. They explained it to me like this:  Our pancreas produces the key to the front door to each cell in my body.  That key opens the cell door to let the energy in that our body needs to function.  Well MY KEY IS LOST FOREVER and my body cannot open the doors to those cells that require energy to survive.  Therefore I need to test my blood sugars several times a day; and before every meal and bedtime I need to inject myself with insulin to open those cell doors.  Type 1 diabetes strikes suddenly and changes life as we know it forever. At this time, Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. I would very much appreciate it if you would even JOIN ME on Sunday, September 29th and walk with me.  This is only a 2-mile walk that begins/ends at Warner Park in Madison (this is were the Madison Mallards play baseball).  If you are unable to join me, please click on my link give to JDRF as generously as possible today.  Thank you for your support!
