Do I Have to Pay a Registration Fee to Participate? There is no registration fee, but fundraising is highly encouraged. To gain access to your very own personal fundraising website, register via www.walk.jdrf.org/atlanta. Every walker who raises $100 will receive a One Step Closer t-shirt at the event! 

Where Do I Park? JDRF has secured discounted, advanced parking rates through the Georgia World Congress Center exclusively for 2017 JDRF One Walk event participants. Available discounted parking areas are the Blue Lot, Marshalling Yards & Gold Deck, though JDRF recommends the Blue Lot. Discounts are available up to 48 hours prior to the event date. To purchase parking online, please visit https://gwcc.clickandpark.com/, find the JDRF One Walk and enter access code “JDRF17”. Parking is subject to availability and carpooling is highly recommended! Note: Discounts not available for day-of parking. JDRF highly recommends purchasing parking in advance.


What About Taking MARTA? Taking MARTA is always encouraged for large events like the JDRF One Walk. Getting to the lot is easy when riding MARTA! Simply take the West Line to the Vine City station. Learn more about MARTA by visiting www.itsmarta.com. MARTA costs $2 per trip, with a one-time, 50 cent fee to purchase a Breeze card.


Is Free Parking available for the JDRF One Walk? Free parking is available at the CNN Center Upper Deck across from Phillips Arena (103 Centennial Olympic Park NW, Atlanta, GA 30303). Participants should simply mention “JDRF” upon arrival. Parking is first come, first served and cannot be reserved in advance. Note: The CNN Center is one mile from the walk site, so we highly encourage you to take advantage of the discounted spaces available for pre-purchase or to utilize Marta.  


Can I Bring My Dog to the Walk? Friendly dogs that do well around other dogs and crowds are welcome. We do ask that you bring your own clean up bags and water for your furry friends, as these will not be provided onsite. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.


Are Children Welcome? Absolutely! The JDRF One Walk is a kid-friendly event, with lots of fun activities including face painting, hair spray, tattoos, bounce houses and more!


What If the Weather Is Bad? The event will be held rain or shine. If it rains, please bring an umbrella and/or other rain gear. If it is cold, please dress warmly with layers.


How Long is the Walk Route? The Walk route is 2.5 miles through the heart of downtown Atlanta. We will pass many exciting downtown attractions, including Centennial Olympic Park, SkyView Atlanta, the new Mercedez-Benz stadium and more! The Walk itself is a leisurely stroll, with strollers and wagons welcome. Two aid stations are located along the route, with water, juice & restrooms available.  


Are Food and Beverage Provided? All walkers will have access to light snacks at the Food Tent, including apples, bananas and pre-packages snacks such as pretzels, granola bars, etc. Bottled water will be available as well. Event attendees are encouraged to plan food & beverage needs accordingly.


Are There Any Food & Beverage Items Available for Purchase On Walk Day? There will be a coffee truck in the Yellow Lot on walk day with coffee, drinks and breakfast items for purchase. Please plan accordingly if you choose to utilize this option on Walk Day. All other activities and food/beverage will be complimentary.


Where Do I Turn in Donations? Donations may be turned in at the Check-In tent. At the check-in tent, you will be asked to complete a Walker Collection Envelope with the following information:

  • Your Team Name and Team Captain's name
  • Amount in envelope
  • Contact information (if you have not registered online)

Each walker will be asked to turn in their own envelope. Also, don't forget:

  • Checks should be made payable to JDRF
  • If you have a large amount of cash or coins to turn in on Walk Day, we ask that you convert it to a personal check and make a note in the memo section that cash has been converted to check.


Where Do I Pick Up My One Step Closer T-Shirt? All registered participants who fundraise $100 will receive a One Step Closer t-shirt. Qualifying participants should head to the Check-In tent where they will receive a t-shirt ticket. Present your ticket to one of the volunteers at the T-Shirt tent to receive your shirt.


Is There a Team T-Shirt Contest? Yes! Teams who made their own shirts and wish to enter in the contest may turn in a shirt at the T-Shirt tent. There will be a winner for best Family, School and Corporate team shirt. The winners will have their team shirt framed & sent to them after the Walk.


Do Type 1 Walkers Receive Special Recognition at the Walk? All type 1 walkers will receive a special T1D Looks Like Me scarf, which may be picked up at the New Families/JDRF Information tent.


I Am New to the Walk. Where Can I Connect With Other Newly Diagnosed Participants? All participants who are new to the Walk are encouraged to visit our New Families/JDRF Information tent. Here you will receive information & resources on JDRF, meet other newly diagnosed families and receive a special drawstring backpack as a thank you for participating.


What is a V1P? A V1P is an individual walker who raises $1,000 or more. V1Ps receive access to expedited check-in, special food & giveaways at the Walk, and are recognized with a special V1P lanyard. If you see a V1P at the Walk, please thank them for their efforts to help JDRF turn type one into type none.


Are Restrooms Available Onsite? Yes, restrooms will be available both at the Yellow Lot and at either of the two aid stations along the Walk route.


Can I Bring a Tent to the Walk? In accordance with the City of Atlanta, participants are not permitted to bring & set-up their own tents at the Yellow Lot. Please contact the JDRF staff at 404-420-5990 with any questions.


Is There a Special Hashtag for This Year’s Event? We highly encourage all event participants to document throughout the event by sharing pictures on social media. Participants are encouraged to use the following hashtags: #JDRFOneWalkAtlanta #JDRF #T1DLooksLikeMe and #TypeNone.
