We will turn Type One into Type None
Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
We're helping JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) where no one has to fear developing this serious autoimmune disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and/or making a donation to JDRF, you can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D.
In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body's ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every donation, big or small, from donors like you, allows JDRF to fund the critical research needed to find a cure.
Even though Lex was just diagnosed in May 2013, she too dreams of a cure for not only herself, but for all those who suffer from this disease. She can no longer be a carefree teenager as she once was. She cannot leave the house without first making sure her diabetes bag contains all of her much needed supplies, she cannot just run outside to ride horse or play volleyball/basketball without first checking her blood sugars, and she now lives with the fear that her blood sugars may be too high or too low when it comes to participating in one of her favorite sport's activities.
Lex has already greatly benefited from the advancements in diabetes management. She recentely received an insulin pump. This pump has helped give her some of her carefree life back. She is able to sleep in on occasion, she no longer has to be on such a strict schedule, and the biggest benefit is she no longer has to receive a minimum of 4 shots a day.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference in not only her life, but all the others who suffer from this disease, by joining us? Just click “Join This Team” to become a team member and start fundraising. Or click “Donate to This Team” to make a donation.
Thank you for your support! All the help is greatly appreciated.
