On Saturday, May 7, 2011 our family and friends will be participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes at Ann Morrision Park in Boise, ID. As you may know diabetes has personally affected our family through our son Alexandr. Alexandr is now 8 years old and has been a type 1 diabetic since he was a mere 4 years old. As a result of diabetes, Alexandr has his blood sugar tested about 10 times per day and is usually on an insulin pump - though sometimes he gets a reprieve and switches to shots. Alexandr doesn't have a choice - he's insulin dependant. Currently there is no cure, there is just insulin to keep his blood sugar under control until such time a cure can be found.
As you can imagine, diabetes has forever changed all our lives - but most of all that of Alexandr. In an effort encourage Alexandr and get involved in finding a cure, we have formed a team to walk in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Specifically we wish to 1) support Alexandr, 2) raise funds to support research in finding a cure, and 3) bring awareness to this terrible disease which is growing each year.
How can you help?
