It's year number five for Team Fish, riding our bikes to raise money towards better treatments and an eventual cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Fishman, Fishlegs, Brifische, Flounder, Hopalong, Mikerel and our newest warrior, Hammerhead, will all be taking to the road once again on August 12th starting in La Crosse, Wisconsin, riding 100 miles through three states & continuing our quest to raise money that helps fund research advancing treatment options for those with T1D.
In four years we've raised nearly $150,000, including an incredible $93,912 last year, all of which has gone towards supporting the efforts of JDRF during the most exciting time ever in T1D research and treatment.
The last year alone has seen both the coming to market of a "closed-loop" insulin pump that delivers a variable rate of insulin 24 hours a day based on the personalized needs of the wearer, and FDA approval for using a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) for dosing insulin, reducing the number of fingerstick blood tests needed to manage the disease.
Advances are also being made in areas such as encapsulated beta cells, smart insulins and more. Things that would have been thought of as pipe dreams or science fiction just a few years ago are becoming realities, thanks in large part to the funds generated by JDRF and the Ride to Cure program.
Donations can be made by clicking the "DONATE TO TEAM" button above, or by sending a check payable to "JDRF" to TeamFish, 30 Realty Drive, Cheshire, CT 06410. Thanks to the literally hundreds of people that have supported our previous rides, and thanks in advance for any support you can provide during the 2017 season. We're honored and humbled for the amazing support we've received since becoming involved with JDRF's Ride program.
Type 1 Diabetes has been an unwelcome partner in our lives for a long, long time. It feels good to know we're helping create a world without T1D and turning Type One into Type None.
