This September, we will be riding 100 miles in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes in Saratoga NY! We have a goal of raising $5,000+ for our ride. We need all the help we can get and appreciate any donation BIG or small!
We are training hard to make this years ride a success. Follow us on Strava and Ride with GPS!
A NOTE FROM ANDY-(My husband on life with T1D-because even though he doesn't actually have it, he lives with it's complications and tribulations day in and day out....)
As many of you know, Stefanie has Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), and is on the South Jersey JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes team. Last year Stefanie completed over 75 miles on her bike in the not-so-flat country side of Burlington Vermont. While this is a great accomplishment on it's own, Stefanie did it while managing a high blood sugar brought on by the nerves and excitement of the big ride. Seeing Stefanie come across the finish line while overcoming the every day challenges of T1D has been an inspiration for me to get a bike of my own, and start riding to find a cure.
Stefanie is not one to complain, make excuses, or in any way let T1D stop her from living life to the fullest. And so sometimes its easy to forget that living with T1D is a constant struggle. Whether it's raising our 2 boys, giving kids much needed OT, or just trying to get a good night sleep, Stefanie is always working to control her blood sugars, and dealing with the many symptoms that come along with T1D. There are no breaks, and no matter how much I would love to remove the burden for even one day, Stefanie is still the one wearing the insulin pump and pricking her fingers. In a lot of ways, it leaves me feeling helpless that there is only so much I can do to support Stefanie.
So this year I will be riding along side Stefanie in our mission to find a cure for T1D. It's one way of letting her know that we are all in this together. Of course this is where you too can help make a difference for Stefanie and the millions of people with T1D, by donating to JDRF.
JDRF has a mission to find a cure and better treatments for T1D through the support of research. And while we still have a ways to go to find a cure, we have benefitted from many advancements made possible by JDRF. In Stefanie’s lifetime alone, she went from shots and sugar free diets, to insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors. And at the end of the day, better treatment of T1D means a better and longer life for Stefanie, and everyone with T1D.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, because it is your donations that truly make a difference in a life without T1D.
