Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!  

Henry (3 1/2) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on October 11, 2011.  October 11th is a day we will never forget. Even after a year, it is still so fresh in our minds. I remember having this feeling in the back of my mind that he had diabetes but I didn't want to believe it. He wouldn't even get out of the stroller to play at the park that morning because he had to be near his water and was wetting through all of his diapers and clothes. That afternoon we went to Evan's 8 week doctor appointment and it wasn't at all about Evan. We spend the next few days at the hospital learning a whole new life. It was hard. This was by far the hardest year of our life. It has been filled with learning, teaching, carb counting, finger pokes, high's, lows, calls to the hospital, appointments and classes. Three months after he was diagnosed he got his insulin pump. We love his insulin pump! HE loves his pump! We are thankful to have gotten one so quickly! Grandma made wearing an insulin pump a lot easier and more fun with all of her fancy pump pouches! Henry is now a pro at blood sugar testing and insulin pump site changes. He still isn't able to identify if his blood sugar is high or low. We still get up in the middle of the night to check his levels. We have learned so much about T1D this past year and caring for Henry has gotten easier. He is a trooper and we love him so much! We are so hopeful for advances in technology and as always praying for a cure!!
