It's almost that time of year again....the Walk to Cure Diabetes! This year is particularly special to me as I have recently made a career change and joined the JDRF staff! After years of volunteering with an organization that I have a strong commitment and passion for, I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime to join the team as a Development Coordinator at the MinnDakotas chapter!†I am really enjoying my position and am so grateful that I get to work for an organization that is funding research to improve my life and find a cure for diabetes! How often do you get to work for an organization that is ultimately working for you?!?!
Life with diabetes has it's every day challenges but it has also brought me some amazing opportunities. Opportunities to meet amazing other young professionals when moving here to Minneapolis to form a brand new YLC (young leadership committee), the chance to travel to Washington DC and speak to Minnesota delegates on Capital Hill, and most recently a fantastic new job! But if you ask me if I would give it up for the chance to have a cure for diabetes, I would give it up in a heartbeat. †
To live without the daily frustrations of this disease, the finger pokes, the carb counting, the waking up in the middle of the night shaking and drenched with sweat from a sudden low blood sugar, or the frustration of unexplained high blood sugars and fearing that eventually my kidneys might start to fail... a day without diabetes would be a dream come true! The good news is that JDRF is working to make my dream and the millions of other Type 1 Diabetics dreams become a reality! A cure is possible and better treatment options are only months away from being available to all! The artificial pancreas is currently being tested in clinical trials and other options are being explored including glucose responsive insulin and beta cell regeneration and encapsulation....all thanks to JDRF's dedication to fund research to improve lives and find a cure!
I am asking you to make a donation of any amount to JDRF in support of my walk team. The path to a cure is an expensive one but one that is within reach! There is groundbreaking research opportunities available now that are on hold for additional funding. We are so close to getting new treatment and we can't stop funding the research now! The thought that one day I won't have to live with diabetes would be wonderful, but the fact that JDRF is working to find a way to PREVENT type 1 diabetes from occurring in a child that Ben and I will hopefully have one day, is something that is truly important to me.†
Thank you to those of you who have supported me and JDRF for the past 8 years (can't believe it's already been 8 years)! I am forever grateful for the love and support you have shown me and it means the world to me that you are standing by my side.†
Making a donation online is easy! However, if you would like to simply mail a donation to me you can also do that! Please send it to:
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
