Welcome to G2 Crew's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Page! February 23th, 2013 will mark the 5th year our family will participate in the walk at the Mall of America. We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
Our daughter, Ashley has had juvenile (also known has type 1) diabetes for almost 5 years now. Last summer, our son Justin was also diagnosed.
Type 1 diabetes if very different from type 2 or adult onset diabetes. They did not get the disease from eating too much sugar, they can not give it to anyone, and they will not outgrow it.
Ashley and Justin poke their fingers 5-6 times per day to check her blood sugar. Ashley wears an insulin pump which delivers the insulin her body needs. Justin currently needs a shot to deliver the insulin. He will hopefully be wearing a pump by the end of January.
We walk so Ashley, Justin and other kids like them will not have to deal with this disease for the rest of their lives. The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look around and see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
We greatly appreciate your consideration and support of this worthy cause. We look forward to having as many people as possible join us. Even if you can?t join us at the Walk, we appreciate any and all donations made as part of our fundraising efforts for JDRF.
