Bea's Sparkling Steppers

On February 23, our family will be walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Mall of America.  Bea has lived strong and feisty with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for more than two years. As many of you know, the daily management of diabetes is rigorous.  Bea requires multiple blood sugar checks daily, and insulin doses for every meal and snack.  She is now starting to participate in her care, performing her own blood sugar checks and learning about the carb content of her favorite foods.

Despite her diagnosis, she is a healthy, active, spunky kid, who is remarkably adjusted to her daily routine that can never take a break or holiday. We are so thankful for the knowledge and technology available to us and her doctors, so that she can live a long, happy life.

Our walk team is proudly dubbed "Bea's Sparkling Steppers," and oh, were we sparkly last year!  We will join tens of thousands of walkers, showing their support for people who live with diabetes, and for the scientists and doctors who work tirelessly to find better treatments and a cure.  The Walk is the one time a year that Bea can see, hear, and truly feel the community that surrounds her and others who have T1D.  She looks forward to this event for months.
