Welcome to the team page for the M & M Crew! We are so glad you are here. With friends like you and JDRF on our side, we can accomplish absolutley anything! Here is a story about how JRDF has greatly improved our lives over the lasy year.
Last June, Meredith and were able to attend a day camp sponsored by JDRF. Camp Endeavor was held at a bowling alley/banquet facility in Green Bay. While the kids bowled, the parents had a chance to get to know each other and discuss triumphs and challenges we've faced on our journeys. When it was time to come together, I went to find Meredith. She was holding hands with a little girl who was her new BFF. Meredith's new friend was Makenna, and I was informed that we would be having lunch with Makenna and her dad. Through the course of lunch, I learned that Makenna was 6 and had just finished Kindergarten - just like Meredith. Makenna is from Wausau (only 35 miles from Antigo!!) and both girls have the same Diabetes Team. Makenna was getting a pump like Meredith's before the end of summer, too.
We left Camp Endeavor with Makenna's phone number and her parents' contact information. Within a month, our first playdate was planned. On that day, the girls laughed and played together, and checked blood sugar and counted carbs togethe. Neither one of them felt different and their bond was sealed. In October, we walked with Makenna's family at JDRF's Walk in Stevens Point. The girls decided we should always walk together and our teams should be called the "M & M's."
Just as the day of Meredith's diagnosis in 2008 at the age of 2 changed our lives forever, so did Camp Endeavor. We have friends who understand our journey as they are on one, too. Meredith has a kindred spirit who knows what it's like to change an infusion set and check blood sugar before every meal. Thanks to JDRF and Camp Endeavor, we are planning many more get-togethers with Makenna and her family. Talk about ?improving lives!!?
But this could not have happened without your support. JDRF is researching for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes while tirelessly working to improve the lives of those living with the disease. Please help us help JDRF and donate to our walk. Thank you for all you do and in the many ways you have supported us on our journey.
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
