Welcome to Team Pickle's Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
As you probably know, Jackson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was just 22 months old...the same week we welcomed his sister, Lilly Belle into the world. THAT was a crazy week! Jacks is now four, and has officially been living with T1D for over half of his life. While we do our best to not let the Diabetes control our lives, the truth is, it does. He can't go out to play or swim without getting a finger prick. He can't eat without getting his blood sugar checked and getting insulin delivery through his insulin pump. We don't get a whole lot of sleep, Jackson is now aware of the fact he is "different", and he already has nerve damage on his two "favorite" fingers. But, we're a very resilient family, and have tackled this head-on. Jackson is thriving. His diabetes is as controlled as it could possibly be for his age group. But the "what ifs" are always in the back of our minds.
There have been so many medical breakthroughs in the last year in Type 1 research for a cure. Additionally, the "Artifical Pancreas" started human trials (it's basically a super smart pump!). And that's why we want to help JDRF achieve its goal of improving the lives of all people affected by Type 1 Diabetes by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. I truly believe that goal is withing reach (It had better be by the time he goes to college, or I'm coming with him!) By making a donation to our walk, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.
We are motivated by the courage and perseverance of our self-proclaimed "Tough Guy" and all of those facing the everyday challenges of Type 1 - they are the reason we challenge ourselves to give more, to do more, to achieve more. Thank you for your support. We truly appreciate it.
