Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes page! RONAN'S RUNNERS!!
We're back this year and excited to participate in the Walk, raise money and have some fun!
As most of you know, it's been almost 3 years since Ronan was diagnosed with T1D. We've all adjusted to our "new normal" and continue to adapt each day. Ronan is thriving and his resilience is astounding! He amazes us every day with his ability to handle the finger pricks, pokes and prods that we have to administer. Never once has he complained when we pull him off of the playground to check his glucose, or when we have to give him a shot of insulin at 3am, or even when we tell him that he can't eat or play because his sugar is too high. These aren't easy issues to deal with, especially for a 4 year old. Ronan continues to impress us with his ability to cope. This life is his normal and he's adjusted well. He also became a big brother and he's doing an amazing job! He even tells his baby brother, Kieran that he has to check his sugar!
We hope you will join us in the fight to cure diabetes. We want better treatments and eventually a CURE! We are walking for those who have diabetes now, and for those who lost their fight with the disease. Ronan's dad Simon, and grandmother June (a/k/a Gigi), both live with T1D. We remember Simon's father, Deke, who lost the battle fighting complications of T1D. We walk for the people yet to be diagnosed and we walk for continuing research to help make life easier for all living with the disease.
In 2011, we raised over $6,000! Help us get to $7,500 this year!!
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge we've set ourselves - to raise money for JDRF and to walk - is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us? Just click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and start fundraising. Any amount is appreciated and will make a difference!
Remember, insulin is not a cure!
Thank you for your support.
