As you all know, Madeline was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on April 25, 2013. This is the day that our lives changed forever. We are excited to get involved with the Diabetes community and raise money to support research for a cure!
Our family will be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money raised will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
What does this mean for Madeline? Currently, she gets her finger pricked to check her blood sugar up to 10 times per day and recieves up to 7 shots a day. Her unstable blood sugars are not only dangerous but make it impossible for Madeline to live as a typical 4 year old should.
So, how can you help support Madeline? You can join Team Madeiline on October 6, 2013 at Forest Park to walk in support. If you can not join us, you can donate through our page. We will also be selling a long sleeve Team Madeline T-shirts with the proceeds going to JDRF research. For more information or to purchase at T Shirt, please contact Elizabeth at 314-606-9467.
Thank you for all of your love and support.
