Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page! We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF?s mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
In April of 2010, 4 months into a new job I got a call from our pediatrician. You see the two weeks prior to that call we noticed our 7 year old had started drinking any and everything he could get his hands on and was waking up 5 times during the night just to pee, and still wetting the bed. And the mood swings, oh the mood swings.. We took him to the doctor and then the next day I got that call. His A1C was 10.4 she said, we are going to go ahead and call it as Type 1 diabetes. You need to head to CHKD and go to the ER, they will be expecting you. Expect to be there a while. You see my baby has just been handed a new lifestyle. My innocent little man now had to prick his finger and test his sugar 5-10 times a day, and then to top it off he had to get and eventually give himself 4-7 shots a day. Now a year and a half later he is on an insulin pump.. while that make life a little easier, it is still a daily fight for which there is no end. There WILL be a cure one day, and by joining us and/or supporting us you can be a part of it. We ask you to consider making a donation so that one day we can say "Our son used to have diabetes". Our son is now 10 years old and manages a very adult disease with grace and wisdom well beyond his years. He accomplishes things every day that amaze us in his fight to control his body. Diabetes just plain sucks, but God is guiding us through this and Sean is a phenomenal young man.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look around and see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
Each member of our team is already hard at work in their fundraising. If you have taken time to visit our team page today, we ask that you consider making a donation or joining our team. To make a team donation, click on the "Donate" button at the top of this page or if you would like to make your gift to one of the team members please click on their name below.
