Hi my name is Alivia and I have type 1 diabetes, also know as juvenile diabetes.
I got diabetes when I was 4 years old. When I first got diabetes I checked my sugar at least 8 times and day and got 4 shots. That means in a year I poked my finger 2,920 and got 1,460 shots. WOW! I can't believe I did that.
After I had diabetes for a year I was able to get an insulin pump. A insulin pump is about the size of a cell phone and has a tube that carries insulin to my body. I have to get one big poke every 3 days. Its kind of like an I.V. It's a lot better then shots but I still don't like it. I have to ALWAYS be hooked up to a machine. When I eat, sleep, and play I have to be hooked up to my pump. I kind of feel like a robot.
It would really mean a lot to me if you could please donate money to JDRF. Every penny counts!! I pray every night for a cure....and if all of us work together hopefully we can get one SOON!!
Oh and PLEASE PLEASE come walk with me.....it really means a lot to see everyone there.
Thank you everyone!!
