Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
We're taking steps to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people's lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and making a donation to JDRF, you'll raise money to help fund critical T1D research and create a world without T1D.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
Tiffany was diagnosed as diabetic just before starting high school. It was a HUGE surprise and a big adjustment for all of us. She learned how to incorporate testing her blood sugar, giving herself insulin shots and counting what she ate. It was a big change, but we worked together as a family. Today she uses an insulin pump which has allowed her greater control, and ease in daily life.
We participated in our first walk the year Tiffany was diagnosed to help support research for a cure and in the meantime assistance in better care. This year we areparticipating in the walk to try and raise money again for research, as well as a rememberance for our dad/husband, Ed Gaskill. We are walking as the Mustangs, Dad's semi-pro football team :). He passed away 5 years ago and was a constant support in our lives. He was on the board for The American Diabetes Association and participated in the walk while Tiffany was away in college, unable to come home. We decided to walk together to help raise money and remember our dad.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
