Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!
This year will be our 3rd year participating in the JDRF walk. We hope by showing our support to Cole, he will know he is not alone, and that we are doing everything we can to help the research to find improvements in management and hopefully, one day soon, a cure.
Here is Cole's story:
Over a 3 week period, we noticed Cole was thirsty ALL the time, and going to the restroom very frequently. We took him to his pediatrician, who immediately checked his urine for glucose and sent us to the emergency room to be admitted to the hospital. On April 25th, 2011, our sweet Cole was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The first 8 months were filled with insulin injections (at least 4 a day) and finger sticks to check his blood sugar (at least 7 a day), along with carbohydrate and blood sugar correction calculations throughout everyday. Then in December, 2011, Cole got an insulin pump that administers his insulin through a site placed on his body. The site is changed every 3 days, which still involves a needle, much to his dismay. Though he still checks his blood sugar frequently throughout the day, and we count his carbohydrates everytime he eats, the pump eliminates multiple daily injections with a syringe. We are very thankful for this technology, and the prospects of what could happen with the pump in the future with the help of JDRF's support of diabetes research. Needless to say, Cole's life and our family's lives have been changed forever. Cole will need insulin and to check his blood sugar everyday for the rest of his life, and he will be at risk for the many complications that can accompany diabetes. We pray for a cure and support JDRF's efforts in research to find one.
Please help us to reach our team goal this year, and to work hard to find a cure!
We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF?s mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look around and see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
Each member of our team is already hard at work in their fundraising. If you have taken time to visit our team page today, we ask that you consider making a donation or joining our team.
