My name is Molly Riley and I have Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed with Diabetes on February 14, 2010. Diabetes isn't just annoying or irritating, I hate it. Any other teenager or kid would say the same thing. It's annoying having to test your bloodsugar when you're out or even at home when no one else has to do it. Type one Diabetes is when the body does not produce insulin. Some people may refer to this type as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. I was diagnosed in fourth grade, and I knew what Diabetes was. I thought I would never get used to pricking myself with needles multiple times a day. I didn't think I would have to only eat a minium amount of carbs every day.
I got my insulin pump on February 15, 2011. It changed my life in a lot of ways. It gave me more freedom. I could fit in better and give myself insulin easier without so many people noticing. It's still a struggle but the pump makes it easier. People say "everything happens for a reason". They say that they wouldn't trade a thing about their diseases, or diagnoses they've had because it's made them stronger. Well that's not me in a lot of ways, I'm not gonna lie. Diabetes isn't easy and if I had the option to not have it then I would take that opportunity. Yeah, sure it's made me stronger and more mature because I had to take the responsibility of taking care of myself at a young age; but at the same time it's a daily struggle. Thank you for any contribution made to my team!
