Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
Once again it is time for the JDRF Walk for A Cure. Since 2003 our family has been involved with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. That was the year that Joey was diagnosed with diabetes. It was a day that changed all of our lives forever. It is hard to believe that Joey has lived with this disease for 10 years. It is a disease that has no cure. At least, there is not a cure yet.
Each year we have participated in the Walk in hope of finding a cure in Joey’s lifetime. There has been progress. Joey now wears a pump and a sensor that allows him more freedom to be the 18 year old that he is. Now as a college freshman he is facing many new challenges that are complicated by his diabetes.
On Sunday, October 27th our team will walk from the steps of the Art Museum. Each step will bring us closer to that cure. This year, Joey has changed his team name to reflect his passion for baking. We are now Joey’s Culinary Crusaders. Some of his fellow future chefs will be walking along with us. You can help us by joining our team or making a donation. You can do this on-line at www.jdrf.org or contact one of the team members. This year Ron, Carol, and Joey are walking. TJ will once again be supporting us from a bluff in Pittsburgh known as Duquesne University.
To all of you, thank you for all of your support throughout this journey. Your thoughts and prayers get us through each day.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge we've set ourselves - to raise money for JDRF and to walk - is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
