Hello Gracie's Daisies!!!
We have a special treat for you this year - friends and family will walk with us here in FRISCO at a local park! We will have food and fun planned and you can come and go as you wish! Run the course, walk the course, or hang out and play games! We will meet at Frisco Commons on Saturday September 28, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Walk start time will be 9:30 a.m.
I wanted to give everyone an update too on Grace's pump success! It has been exactly a year since we started with the Animas One Touch Ping pump. It was a little daunting at first, it was like being diagnosed all over again with new things to learn and new equipment to manage, but I am so happy to tell you that it has definitely made daily life with diabetes a little easier. No more shots!! : ) The pump gives Grace varying insulin doses every hour so she is always receiving some amount of insulin to regulate her body. Grace changes her site every 3-4 days and has learned how to draw the insulin, load the pump and get it primed all by herself. We are so proud of her. Most incredibly, her A1C (the measure of sugar in your body over a 3 month period) dropped to within normal range - within the fist 3 months. That means that her body is functioning well and the pump is providing her with the insulin she needs to keep her body regulated - this is so important for longevity with this disease.
We always reach new milestones each year with T1D and this year was no exception. Grace conquered a water park in the first week of having her pump (she wears it to swim), we figured out rock climbing is a little uncomfortable with a site on your tummy where the belt has to hold you and we managed to make it through a beach vacation without sand in the pump and realizing salt water takes the "glue" right off the site patch - but we made it through it all and had a blast!! Grace certainly does not let her diabetes slow her down and we are so proud of her!!!
So many of you have walked with us in the past and donated an incredible amount of money to JDRF. We are so thankful and so blessed by your support. It is one of Grace's favorite days of the year. I am excited to be hosting everyone this year here in Frisco so we can thank you for all you have done for our family and this amazing cause. JDRF is the leader in research funding for T1D and the strides they are making to conquer this disease are incredible. If you have time, check out some of the amazing research projects funded by JDRF.
We love you all and thank you so much for being a part of Gracie's Daisies!!! See you on Walk Day!!
