Welcome to Trinity's JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
Trinity is excited to walk again with all her friends and family to raise lots of $$$ for the cure for Type 1 diabetes.
Trinity continues to battle the daily highs and lows of her Type 1 diabetes…from spending this past New Year’s Eve and the next few days in the ER from a basic stomach virus to having insulin pump issues from static electricity that required as many as three (somewhat painful) pod changes in a day – she continues to battle daily the disease with more strength and maturity than an 8 year old should need.
Trinity went away to a camp this Summer for three weeks – Camp Sweeney in Whitesboro, TX. The camp has been around since 1960 and is geared specifically for kids that are Type 1 diabetic (but she got to take her older sister along). It was a phenomenal experience – getting to participate in all the activities of a normal camp but with a tremendous medical infrastructure around managing the insulin and blood sugar levels for over 200 campers. Camp Sweeney teaches the kids a lot about Type 1, but more importantly it teaches them how to have the inner strength each and every day to maintain a healthy lifestyle with the disease. She loved the camp and, no surprise, wants to go back next Summer!
While the camp was amazing, we don’t want her or anyone to have battle Type 1 diabetes, forever.
We're taking steps to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people's lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and making a donation to JDRF, you'll raise money to help fund critical T1D research and create a world without T1D.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge we've set ourselves - to raise money for JDRF and to walk - is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease.
Will you accept the challenge to make a difference by walking with us? Just click on the "Join this Team" button, make a donation, and start fundraising.
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
Trinity can't wait to see you out there!!!!
