    2014 JDRF Walk Committee

We will turn Type One into Type None

Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!

We're helping JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) where no one has to fear developing this serious autoimmune disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and/or making a donation to JDRF, you can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D.

In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every donation, big or small, from donors like you, allows JDRF to fund the critical research needed to find a cure.

Will you accept the challenge to make a difference in your community by joining us? Just click “Join This Team” to become a team member and start fundraising. Or click “Donate to This Team” to make a donation.

You can check out one of our events from last year here.

Here is the list of fundraising events we will be doing in office:

Fundraising Events:

1.)    Cropping Out Type-1 Diabetes

Saturday, April 12th, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

We will be holding the 2nd Annual “Cropping Out T1 Diabetes” Scrapbook Event on Saturday, April 12th. The “Crop”, as we call it, will be from 9 am to 9 pm at Hamilton’s, located at 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.  For $30 attendees will get access to an all day event that gives individuals who enjoy scrapbooking, card marking, or any other craft an opportunity to meet new people, work on their projects and help us raise money for JDRF.  We also provide lunch, dinner, contests and prizes throughout the day, and much more!

In 2013, and so far in 2014, we have been lucky enough to have all items for the event, including the location, donated. This means 100% of our proceeds have gone directly to the SumTotal JDRF fundraising efforts!

If you would like to volunteer to help with the event or purchase a ticket, contact Danielle Van Arkel at

2.)   “Stickin’ it” to Type 1 Ticket Sales - April 7th – 17th

“Stickin’ it” to Type 1 Event - Thursday, April 17th 11:30 a.m.

This event is new this year. We will be raising money for two weeks culminating in a "Stickin' it" event on Thursday, April 17th at 11:30am. Mike Freeman has volunteered to stand on a chair and be duct taped to the outside wall. How will this work? For $5 you will receive a ticket which can be turned in on April 17th at the "Stickin' it" event in exchange for a yard of duct tape which you will then be able to stick to Mike.  After everyone has placed their tape we will remove the chair and enjoy the spectacle. We will also draw one ticket and the lucky winner will have the pleasure of throwing a pie at Mr. Freeman's face.

Hotdogs and balloon animals will be available for $1 donations, so feel free to grab some grub and enjoy the show.

Tickets will be available for purchase from Danielle Van Arkel, Mike Freeman, Ben D’Andelet, Noel Nicholas, Emily Marcovich, Lee Thomas, Clarence Matthews, Johnathon Cook and Suhayb Ahmed.

3.)    Healthy Snacks

We are selling fruit, granola bars and other healthy snacks in the break room for around $1 per item.  Item prices are listed on the wall. Just pick your item and put your money into the jar provided.  All proceeds will go to JDRF.

4.)    Feet-ure your department

April 7th – May 8th

We will again be selling JDRF paper shoes for $1 each. This year you will get to place your shoe on the wall in your department’s area and after May 8th we will tally up the amount of shoes in each department. The department with the most shoes will win a pizza party on May 9th.

We have broken up your departments into the following groups:

-          Sales

-          Customer Support, PS

-          Engineering, QA, Cloud Ops Marketing, Legal

Shoes will be available for purchase from Danielle Van Arkel, Mike Freeman, Ben D’Andelet, Noel Nicholas, Emily Marcovich, Lee Thomas, Clarence Matthews, Johnathon Cook and Suhayb Ahmed.
