Dear Diabetes, It has been 6 years since you entered our lives...
To our family and friends,
Thank you for taking the time to look at our page. Last year, with generous help, we raised over $1000 for the JDRF. Many of you did not know Makenna. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for reaching out and giving to others!
There are several reasons why I like to donate to the JDRF. One reason is they are a big emotional support for our family. Several times during the year, they put together events which our family attends. They educate us, give us hope and help us connect to others dealing with type 1 diabetes. It is a tremendous feeling to be in a room with of people that know what it is like to live with diabetes. They are very focused on providing a fun, safe environment for the kids to play while we are at these events! Going to JDRF events are something I look very forward too!
In the lines of giving us hope, that is what it is all about. Doing a quick search of the internet will give you a not so pretty picture. Diabetes can be devastating. Raising a child with diabetes is a balancing act of providing our daughter with hope. Hope that she will live a long life, not governed by the effects diabetes.
One of the biggest challenges we have is hypoglycemia (or a low blood sugar). The JDRF is working on several ways to minimize this is people with diabetes. This is LIFE CHANGING for us!
You tube has many stories of diabetes! I wish I knew how to make a video… This is a great video I found! Pretty much if I knew how to make one, this is what it might look like- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywMgXE11Ziw
If you donate, the JDRF with send you an email/ receipt for taxes. By donating, you help the JDRF achieve its goal (our goal) of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. By making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease for Makenna!
If you can, walk with Makenna! This is her special day! We would love and appreciate your support in standing beside her!
