We will turn Type One into Type None

Saylor Mackenzie Nielsen is 6 years old.  She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the very young age of 2, and has been living on pricks and needles ever since.  Saylor is naturally a little on the shy side, but has a fun-loving demeanor and a witty sense of humor. She is very active and loves to run, bike, swim, and dance. She is very creative and loves to learn new things.  Saylor has such a tender and sweet little heart but also a very strong, brave, and determined sprit.
Because of her T1D, Saylor's pancreas stopped producing insulin, which is essential to the body's ability to get energy from food.  T1D strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle.  Since her pancreas doesn’t work quite right, Saylor requires insulin injections several times a day to regulate her blood glucose. Every minute of every day, Saylor is at risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia; both of which can be fatal. Managing her T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, frequent finger pricks (8 to 12 daily), and lifelong dependence on insulin. With her T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
Saylor is determined not to let her diabetes keep her from being great.  But she can’t do it alone and needs your help!  Please join Team Saylor at the Treasure Valley Walk to Cure Diabetes at Ann Morrison Park on May 3rd.  The Walk is a FUNDRAISING event for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.  It’s a day to give HOPE to children like Saylor, that together we can help them shake the disease!
