Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes team page!
We're gearing up for our 2nd year at the JDRF Walk and hoping to gain lots of new team members to support Nate in his fight against diabetes!!
Nathan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in September 2008, just 2 months after his second birthday.Nate was drinking a lot, wetting thru his diaper and clothes, tired and cranky. When I told my Mom I was going to take him in for a checkup, she suggested I mention that those were signs of diabetes and that there is a history of diabetes in the family.Thank goodness for Mom!Had I not followed her advice the doctor would not have seen him for another week and Nate surely would have ended up in the hospital. As it was, the doctor sent us straight to the ER where they worked with the Baystate Endo to stabilize him for the night. We were able to bring Nate home for the night and head for the specialist first thing in the morning.
That first week learning about Type 1 and how to take care of our baby was terrifying and emotional, but Nate was a little trooper.Five years later, we are still reminded daily of what an amazingly strong boy he is.“Nate the Great,” as he is called by friends and family, is an inspiration to everyone he meets. He takes his diabetes in stride and doesn’t let anything slow him down! When he feels the need, he flexes his arms and shows us his guns. He’s pretty sure his guns are about the biggest around and we all agree! He loves playing baseball, basketball, kickball and football as well as riding his motorcycle and fishing.Anyone who stops by the house is sure to end up playing some sort of ball game with Nate – it’s just impossible to say no to his kind of enthusiasm!
Please join Nate in showing diabetes his guns by making a donation to help find a cure.Hopefully many of you can join us at the walk!Come on…show us your guns!!
Thank you for your support, and we'll see you on Walk day!
