Thank you for taking the time to join or donate to our team, Picca's Charge!
I can not believe it has been almost 5 years since Anna has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I remember her waking up the morning of her 5th birthday and feeling sluggish. Who would have guessed that she would be spending her birthday in the PICU at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford because we just found out that she had diabetes.
She has come along way
This past year we found out that Anna has Celiac Disease in addition to the diabetes. She now has to be on a gluten-free diet for the rest of her life. As usual, she goes with the flow. She is even more aware of what she can and can not eat and ALWAYS asked before eating anything she is unsure of. She now has her own toaster, counterspace and condiments in the refridgerator because of cross contamination. She also has her own cabinent in the kitchen with all her gluten free food. She has been great in trying new foods and snacks. Some she likes others....well let's say she can do without it!
She is a master with her insulin pump now and is improving in her ability to count carbs. She is able to type into her pump how many carbs she is eating and add her blood sugar and have the pump do the rest. She has come a long way over this past year.
If you would be willing to join us on Walk Day, Septemeber 25th at Quinnipiac Campus in North Haven at 10:00 that would be great! If you are unable to attend but would be willing to donate or support us in prayer that's just as well. It is a busy time for everyone and whatever support you can give is deeply appreciated.
Thank you again. Together, we will cure type 1 diabetes and its complications!
