I'm the take steps towards a cure type.

Why we walk by kelsey dodge

My family participates in JDRF One Walk® to raise money that will help create a better future for the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes, like my mom.

With type one diabetes (T1D), a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. She must constantly monitor her blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin through a pump and carefully balance these insulin doses with her eating and activity. Which basically means she gets poked by a needle every. single. day. Once she poked me with a needle, and let me tell you, it hurt. I don't know how she does it all, but my mom's tough. If her blood sugar gets too high, or too low, it can be very dangerous. She's constantly checking her pump to make sure she is good for the day, and living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure, but there is hope.

With every dollar you donate to JDRF One Walk, it will help fund research for better treatments to  remove the daily burden of this disease, until my mom (and everyone else with T1D) lives a life without it.
