For Zack...

On March 14, 2011, one week after Zack's 27th birthday, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

It has been a year, and Zack is getting used to his Insulin Pump and Continuous Blood Glucose Meter.  While the pump adds more convenience than manually injecting the medicine he needs, the inserts still cause him a lot of pain and discomfort. He has to wear it all the time, including when he sleeps. He constantly has to make sure his blood glucose levels do not go too low or too high. Every time he falls into these ranges, he risks damaging his body and future complications of the disease.

Diabetes has robbed Zack of his peace of mind.  The activities that Zack loves doing, like scuba-diving, have all become much more complicated by his Diabetes. In addition to regular check-ups, Zack has to endure various appointments with Diabetes Specialists, Educators, Endocrinologists, Dermatologists, and Podiatrists to make sure the disease is properly controlled.

Zack is just one of millions of people who are quietly suffering from the effects of Type 1 Diabetes. JDRF is trying to find a cure to improve the lives of those affected by the disease. That is why for our 5th Wedding Anniversary, Zack and I would like to support JDRF by riding 105 miles to raise $5,000. Please help us in our efforts by making a donation in whatever amount that you can. We also humbly ask that you please spread the word to your friends, co-workers, neighbors, and family. The more money we can raise for research, the closer we are to curing this terrible disease.
