Coach Dianne Rides for JDRF! Please Join me in honoring my Dad, for the fight to cure, better treat & prevent type 1 diabetes!

Ready for Metric Century!
Finished 62!

Please Join me in honoring my Dad, in the fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!

Hello! This year, I'll be riding a 100 mile bike ride in JDRF's Ride to Cure Diabetes, along with hundreds of other riders across the country to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D).  If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening.  And they know it never goes away.

Most of you know what an amazing man my father was, and what a great relationship we had until his death in January 2010 at the age of 94 plus 11 months. While he was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 65, I believe he was able to successfully manage his disease because of what he witnessed with his best friend Junior. Junior was a type 1 diabetic who was always in need of personal attention because of the radical, unpredictable degradation of his disease. My father was often his "first responder" to get him whatever he needed to stabilize his condition at that moment. It was a very frightening and ugly experience for sure. His young friend passed early in life leaving my father with a vivid impression of the disease. Because my father was able to see the horrible effect of this disease, he was determined not to allow himself to decline in his own disease management.  Most victims are not as fortunate as my father.

As a nurse I have personally witnessed the devistating effects of the disease on numerous friends and relatives, the young, adolescent, and the adults. It is an unfair, unrelenting, and drastically life altering disease. It is my sincere hope that my commitment to the JDRF by riding this ride (at the age of 65) in my father's honor, advances the cure and treatment of Type 1 diabetes for all.

I am asking for your support.  Please donate what ever amount you can afford to my personal fundraising efforts.  By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes, while honoring Robert T. Cowan, Sr., God Rest his Soul.

    Did you know that:

    • T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
    • T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
    • Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
    • Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D.  JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.  Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

I Thank you in advance for your support! Please share this with anyone who might want to get involved.

To your best success in 2013!

    With gratitude and appreciation,

    Dianne
