Back in the Saddle to help turn Type One into Type None!

On July 26th, 2014 in Burlington,Vermont, I will again be riding for the millions of individuals who suffer from Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).  I will be riding 100 miles in one day with one goal in turn Type 1 into Type None.  So, why do I ride?...

If you would have asked me 7 years ago what Type 1 diabetes was, I would not have been able to answer you.  I knew what “diabetes” was...but Type 1???  My partner was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 4.  Over the years I have become way too familiar with this disease.  I have seen just how ugly and scary T1D can be.  I have watched the cycle of blood sugar highs and lows, the scare of complications including eye disease and heart disease, and the psychological burden that this disease carries.

This year, Kimberly and I will be riding these miles together...taking control of a disease that could easily take control of our lives.  It's a journey that we have been on for many years with many ups and downs.  But, I can honestly say that these ups and downs have given us the will to fight this fight!  A fight that is so desperately needed!

There are many reasons we ride...We ride for awareness and the need for continued research!  We ride for the the newly diagnosed and the hope that one day T1D is a thing of the past!  We ride for the children whose lives are turned upside down after such a diagnosis.  We ride to tell T1D that life goes on!  But I think most of all, we ride to ride on!!!

     Riding for many...Riding for 1!
