This year I'm riding to turn Type One into Type None!

Hi Friends! Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!

I’m cycling 100 miles this October as part of the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, to raise money for JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. This is a cause I've been involved with for a few years now and I've finally made the committment financially and personally to do this ride. I chose to ride in Nashville since that's my hometown and is the place where I've had most of my significant athletic endeavors occur. Remember my first marathon way back in 2000?!

T1D strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Insulin is essential to turning food into energy. T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

JDRF is working every day in drastic ways to change this. And every dollar I raise helps them continue to bring life-changing therapies from the lab to the community until a cure is found.

I have begun the hard part of training and fundraising for this 100 mile ride, and your gift today will propel me toward the finish line. Please donate and help JDRF achieve its goal of a world without T1D.

Please check back to view my fundraising progress as my Ride weekend approaches. Thank you for your support.

    First ride of 2014!
This past Sunday I got on my bike outdoors for the first time this year! It was a short 20 mile ride with my friend Robyn, but it was 20 miles people!!! That's more than I've done on the trainer in the winter or at the gym on the stationary bikes. And wow - the soreness set it super fast! I was basically worthless the rest of the day but it felt so great to get out and peddle down the road.
The weather seems to be turning in our favor, so hopefully the weekend rides will kick into high gear very soon.
I got the chance to recall how much I love biking, which I needed. I needed a good mental "win" this past weekend.
    Ride on!
