Thank Congress for More Than $75 Million in T1D Research Funding

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I want to thank you for supporting the Congressional relief package, which addresses some important near- and long-term needs of the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community including extending funding for the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) through November 30, 2020. The SDP is improving lives and advancing research to treat, prevent and ultimately find cures for T1D through the National Institutes of Health.

The SDP has helped scientists make significant advances in T1D research--including artificial pancreas technology, improvements to continuous glucose monitors, and treatments for complications of T1D like kidney disease and diabetic retinopathy. These advancements make it easier to live with T1D until there are cures for this disease.

The Congressional relief package also includes provisions that have near-term impact for people with T1D as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, including renewed funding for community health centers and requires that Medicare Part D plans provide up to a 90-day supply of prescription medications, including insulin, if requested by a beneficiary during the COVID-19 emergency period.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,
