Retain Provisions Supporting Access to Affordable Insulin in Build Back Better Act

Dear [Decision Maker],

All people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) deserve affordable access to insulin, a drug they must take multiple times per day to stay alive. As your constituent, I am writing to call your attention to important provisions for people with T1D in the Build Back Better Act that passed in the House, and to urge you to retain them in the final bill.

The House bill guarantees a $35 monthly cap on the out-of-pocket cost of insulin for people with Medicare or commercial insurance, and contains other helpful provisions, such as requiring commercial insurers to exclude insulin from the deductible and capping prescription drug out-of-pocket costs in Medicare Part D at $2,000. The cap, in particular, would provide significant savings for people who rely on insulin.

Insulin should be available at a reasonable, predictable out-of-pocket cost. Affordable insulin helps people with T1D avoid costly emergency room visits, inpatient admissions, disease complications, and saves lives.

Please do all you can to ensure the Senate bill retains these policies. Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,
