Join me in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes!

Welcome to my personal Team JDRF to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

I have joined Team JDRF to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Many of you know our family's history with this diabetes.  If not, here is the long story short...  When my sister was a freshmen in high school, our family experienced "the new normal".  That year, her fall swimming season, my sister was fatigued, thirsty, and her powerhouse stroke was weak.  Anne's swim coach suggested testing for diabetes, and after a visit to the doctor which included a blood sugar surprise, his hypothesis was confirmed.  Our family changed that day, we learned how to give shots, eat differently, and most importantly, support Anne.

Anne has never let her autoimmune disease keep her down.  In fact, she has taken her situation and turned it into giving back to her community in so many ways.  She's the Diabetes Nurse Educator winner of the Outstanding Nurse of 2017, Head Nurse and Board Member of Camp Needlepoint, a Diabetes Camp where she's volunteered for over 26 years, she supports the annual Walk for a Cure, and has given back multiple times overseas- to Africa for outreach and education.

This fall, I have the opportunity to run the Chicago Marathon under JDRF, in honor of my sister.  This race gives purpose and homage, as I realize that my short term training battle is nothing compared to what Anne endures daily.  Most importantly, when the race is over, the gift of fundraising continues to leave a legacy.

Please consider donating to JDRF in honor of my sister, and all the others that are impacted by this autoimmune disease.  Together we are stronger, there is no donation too small!

Many thanks and love for your support,

Kate

*Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

*JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
