What is type 1 diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D's causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. JDRF is the leading supporter of research to find cures for T1D.
How do I vote for my favorite Gingerbread House?
Each time a donation is made towards a gingerbread house it is a vote. We want to encourage as many people as possible to come see and engage with the Gingerbread Village. While the Gingerbread Village is free to visit, a $5 donation per person is recommended, and greatly appreciated, as it directly supports JDRF and their mission of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes.
