Our team named Calla's Crusaders is walking to help JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) for the millions of children and adults living with this disease. By joining our Walk Team and/or making a donation, you will be helping us to raise funds to directly support research with the greatest potential to conquer this disease.
With T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. If you have T1D, you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, inject or infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance these insulin doses with your eating and activity. Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.
The Story Behind "Calla's Crusaders"
Calla Michalski and Brooke Kunze, our team captains, both have T1D. They use the Omnipod Insulin Pump which control blood sugars levels better, but still is not a cure. Calla also uses a Continuous Glucose Monitor to track her blood sugar patterns. Despite what many people think, insulin does keep people with type 1 diabetes alive, it is NOT a cure, only a temporary solution.
By donating or joining our JDRF One Walk® team today, you’ll help fund research to improve the lives of everyone challenged by T1D. With your support, JDRF will turn Type One into Type None.
