Singing for a world without T1D!

To my Amazing Family and Friends,

First, a major thank you to all of you who have supported me over the years - emotionally, spiritually and/or financially with our fundraising (you've raised more than a $1M - Wow!). If ever there was a winning team, you are it! What a difference you've made for me and the millions like me with type 1 diabetes!

In November of 2000, my life changed for the better. Yes, you read that right, the better. As a young, four-year-old little girl with pigtails, being diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes was devastating. I mean, no donuts? Try telling that to a four-year-old :-). OK...I will admit to having a "few" moments of wanting normalcy, given my 8 seizures, checking my blood sugar levels 7-8 times a day (about 45,000 times through the years), and constantly balancing my diet and exercise with the right amount of insulin.

But as the years progressed, God opened my eyes to the blessing of experiencing adversity at such a young age. I have learned that life is about choosing joy...no matter the circumstances! Also, through the love and support of my amazing family, opportunities with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Meredith college, I have learned to raise my voice and make a difference on this beautiful journey through life.

And speaking of raising my voice, my family and I were thinking what could we do to be creative and have a little fun with our fundraising this year in support of the upcoming JDRF Hope Gala (where we're honoring Debra Morgan, WRAL TV Anchorwoman, and one of my all-time favorite people).  And this is where my idea to re-write "Versace on the Floor" to "Test Strips on the Floor" was born. What fun it was to record the following video in my all-time favorite NYC! "Test Strips on the Floor" is my vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Your generosity will help JDRF fund life-changing breakthroughs and eradicate T1D. Thank you for supporting me and my beautiful friends with T1D.

Forever grateful,
