Today is 30 days from the ride!!!!!
Looking forward to the ride and appreciate all the folks who have generously donated!!Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
I'm taking part in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes because I’m up for a physical and mental challenge that I know will be the experience of a lifetime. And, the money I raise will change the lives of millions of people who struggle with the burden of type 1 diabetes (T1D) every day.
I was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in 1970 as an 8 year old. This is the same year that the JDRF was started. I have lived with this chronic condition for over 47 years at this point. I check my blood sugar 7 to 8 times daily by pricking my finger with a lancet device. I inject insulin a minimum of 4 times daily. I deal with multiple complications from T1D. The T1D complications I deal with include retinopathy, cardiovascular and vascular disease and a partial amputation of my left foot. The cardiovascular disease was discovered in 2005 when I experienced a heart attack and then about 5 years later when I had a triple bypass procedure. I work hard at balancing my food intake, daily routine and medications in order to control the disease, it is a daily battle.
I hope that you will support JDRF and sponsor me as I ride to help put an end to this disease. Riding 100 miles in a single day is not in my sweet spot. It will be a significant challenge for me but I am committed to putting in the work and training if it means that others will not have to endure a lifetime dealing with this condition.
Did you know T1D:
- Is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin – the hormone that controls blood sugar levels
- Strikes children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle
- Requires constant carb counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin
- Is a constant balancing act that results in stress and sleepless nights
There is no way to prevent T1D and there is no cure – yet. But JDRF is working hard to change that.
Every dollar you donate today funds research for breakthroughs to help everyone with T1D live healthier and longer, until this disease no longer exists.
With your support, we will turn Type One into Type None.
