Walk With Us & Support Ella

Do you know Ella?  She is a dancer.  She is a great friend.  She is a happy child.  She is creative.  She has a huge heart.  She is a smart girl.  There may be something else about Ella that you don't know.  She has Type 1 diabetes.  You may have seen the 2 medical devices she wears.  These allow Ella to live as much as a normal life as possible.  One is an insulin pump, and one is a CGM (continuous glucose monitor).

With T1D (Type 1 Diabetes), a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. The daily life of someone with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections or insulin delivered through a pump, like Ella that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist.

We are fundraising for JDRF because we believe in their vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.  You may see myself, Stephanie or Ella's Dad, Mark around the dance studio more than other parents.  That is simply because we must stay on top of these blood glucose levels.  We monitor them closely.  Children and adults die daily of this horrible disease.  We are teaching Ella to monitor herself, and to try to live as normally as possible.

Can she eat like a normal person/kid? Yes!  She can have candy, donuts, pizza, etc.  She just needs to take a couple more steps.  She needs to dose some insulin through her pump.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and considering joining our walk at her generous dance studio, Dance Works.  If you cannot make it to our walk, please consider a donation to JDRF.  (walk details below)

Your generosity will help JDRF fund life-changing breakthroughs to remove the incredible daily burden of this disease—until it no longer exists.

Thank you!
