Cure Type 1 Diabetes

I’m fundraising for JDRF because I believe in their vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).

In the summer of 2020, I, Blake Mosher, will have graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Before enrolling in Medical School to eventually become an endocrinologist, I will trail run 46 miles around Letchworth State Park in one day. The Letchworth route will challenge all that I am. As a person living with T1D, I will have moments when my blood glucose levels refuse to cooperate. I will need to be extra attentive to avoid hypoglycemic events. It will be difficult to continue at times, but I plan to embrace adversity and push through it.

I hope to inspire others to live their lives unconstrained. Type 1 diabetes, “may change your habits and perspective, but will never change who you are,” and I am an adventure seeker.

Funding type 1 diabetes research is a natural choice for my Letchworth ultramarathon. I have observed Dr. Basina in her endocrinology clinic specializing in diabetes, researched in Dr. Meyer’s immunology lab focusing on T1D research at Stanford University, and was a camp counselor at the T1D kids Camp de Los Niños. These experiences encouraged me to do all that I can to fight for a cure for T1D.

After the finishing my ultramarathon, I will return to Dr. Meyer’s laboratory for a year to help research a cure before continuing on to earn a MD degree.

Please sponsor my Letchworth ultramarathon by donating to JDRF today.
