Let's create a world without T1D!

For my Bat Mitzvah JDRF fundraiser, I’d like to begin by introducing my dad. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 8, he didn’t have the kind of childhood that other kids did. My father was ashamed that he couldn’t be the perfect child for his dad, so he tried everything he could to be normal.

His dad, my grandfather, did everything to help him feel more normal. It breaks my heart to share that he passed away recently at the age of 91 on November 16, 2021. He was the most amazing man you could ever meet, demonstrating an outgoing personality with selfless acts and the ability to never feel embarrassed. He was a tough marine with the heart of a rose.  After my dad was diagnosed with diabetes, it was my grandfather's mission to work for a cure.  When there was a cure, he and my dad promised to share a chocolate bar together. That was his dream, and my dad's, and it sadly never happened.

It devastates my family to think about. So, for my Bat Mitzvah fundraiser, I chose the charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, otherwise known as the JDRF.

In memory of my loving grandfather's biggest hope and in honor of my dad, who lives with diabetes, I'm making it my mission to ride a minimum of 360 miles on my bike trainer (Zwift) for one month before my Bat Mitzvah on February 19, 2022. This is very ambitious but I'm going to push myself as hard as I can because the cause is real and it's very personal.  I know my grandfather will be looking down on me and helping me with each mile and my dad will also be there to motivate me.  For the near 1.5 million children and adults in our country with insulin dependent diabetes (juvenile diabetes), and their families who are there to support them, I'm working to help find a cure for all of you.  It's time for all of us to share a collective chocolate bar!

Please support me on my month-long voyage.  I will be posting updates on days and times when I ride and if you are on Zwift, please join me.  I can use all the support I can get.  With the 360+ miles I'll be aiming for, I'm also looking to raise over $5000.00 for JDRF.
