Honoring Mary Tyler Moore by creating a world without visual loss from diabetes!
A voice to the fears and hopes of people with diabetes and their families, Mary devoted a large part of her life to raising awareness of the devastating consequences of diabetes and its complications, and the promise of research.
Over the course of 30+ years, Mary helped JDRF raise billions of dollars to fund diabetes research and become one of the most influential grassroots health research advocacy entities in the world.
Diabetes had a devastating impact on Mary's life including significant visual loss from Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD). Through it all, she worked tirelessly with JDRF to help ensure that others would not have to suffer the same diabetes-related burdens as she had.
While Mary did not make it to see a cure, The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (formerly: The Restoring Vision Moonshot) was launched to honor her contributions to diabetes research and help realize her dream of a world without diabetes and its complications.
Our Vision A world without visual loss from Diabetic Retinal Disease (DRD)
Our Mission Develop methods to preserve, restore, and protect visual function in people with diabetes regardless of their stage or severity of DRD
Our Commitment Deliver groundbreaking research enabled by globally accessible shared resources linked to collaborative research networks sharing their data in real-time on a dedicated data repository
Your donation will help finance the stand-up of critical path science accelerators (human eye biorepository, DRD Staging Update, Biomarkers and Clinical Endpoints Consortium) and establish key Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative collaboration hub functions!
