I’m fundraising for JDRF because I believe in their vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).

With T1D, a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. The daily life of someone with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections  that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and   wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist.

Madison's life was turned upside down at the age of 12. She has been a competitive dancer since she was 5. The struggle of this disease is exhausting.  Then add in the level of what it takes to compete, and still do all regular teenage activities, takes its toll. 

The regimen that exists for type 1 isn't and won't ever be as affective as an actually working pancreas. There is nothing preventable about type 1. You can do EVERYTHING right and still get a bad outcome and an off day. 

She has learned the hard way that people do not understand this disease and the effort it takes to just feel ok.  They think it is merely a change in diet and do some exercise. It's not, it is hard work, for the rest of your life. 

 Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.
