Let's create a world without T1D!

We are fundraising for JDRF in loving memory of my Dad - Melvin Hunt who left us on Friday May 19, 2023 to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Dad was diagnosed in 1956 at the age of 4 as a type 1 diabetic (T1D).  Type 1 diabetics are insulin dependent, their bodies cannot produce the insulin required for daily life.  Each day for a T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, disruptive glucose monitoring, sleepless nights—and wishing for a tomorrow where this struggle doesn’t exist.

My Dad has experienced all the ups and downs that come with the daily regimen of planning and managing his life around those needs, as well as a variety of the health complications that can be incurred.  In his lifetime he saw  treatments evolve into less intrusive, more effective methods of managing diabetes and the lessening of some of its potential complications.  Dad has also watched as one of his sons, and one of his grandsons were diagnosed as T1Ds.  The amount of perspective Dad had on the evolution in treatment and us being able to look back and talk to him about everything he went through from 1956 until 2023 when he left us to be with the good Lord has always been a comfort to my son and I when we discussed the ups and down of T1D life.

I am forever grateful for the support of my dad, but I am also forever grateful of the progress made in treating T1D in the 66 years since my Dad was first diagnosed.  I believe in the vision of JDRF and one day living in a world without type 1 diabetes.   Your generosity will help JDRF fund life-changing breakthroughs to remove the incredible daily burden of this disease—until it no longer exists.  If you would like to help with a cause that has been instrumental in the treatment progress, please take a moment to give in my Dad's name.

Thank you
